Gallery, Studio, Shop & Offices
the evarts studio & shop will be a collaborative environment for artisans to create and showcase their products. It will also be a learning center for the design/build community and the public. Through promotions, events, and forums, we will attract a clientele that appreciates our offerings, values, and the artist community we have built. We will also educate others of the necessity, importance and long-term value of fair pay and environmental sustainability.
Our design commissions will be a source of work for the artisans, as their products will be incorporated into the home and garden projects. Conversely, some people who come seeking artwork will become clients for our design services. This unique interaction of commerce and conscience will set evarts apart from the crowd.
The dialogue between artisans, the design community, and the public will create a very creative and energized environment. By promoting important social and environmental issues, we hope to become a valuable asset to the community, and a leader in these complex, inter-related issues.
The evanston artisan cooperative will feature:
art gallery
An open, well-lit space that will showcase the work and products of the Evanston Artisan Cooperative. Works by different artisans in various media will mingle and mix interestingly together, creating a truly unique environment.
design studio
A studio for CAD workstations and drafting tables where architects and designers will plan hardscapes, landscapes, furniture, accessories, homes, and artworks.
administration & marketing
Offices to provide the necessary administrative support, public relations, and marketing to get the word of evarts to the public.
work observation and green gallery
A long, glass corridor that allows the public to observe our artisans at work. The corridor will also display images and materials that relate the Evarts philosophy, and promote green building techniques, alternative energy, and smart growth.
carpentry & woodworking
A woodworking shop that will produce garden furniture, pergolas, planter boxes, etc.
concrete
The concrete studio will contain a small batch plant, bins for unique aggregates, and space to create products such as concrete sculptures, fountains, art pavers, and more.
ceramics / glass / sculpture
The ceramics/glass studio will produce pottery, tiles, fountains, bird baths, artwork, and other products for the home and garden.
metals
A metal working shop to produce trellises, furniture, gates, sculptures, and other garden art.
paint & finishes
The paint studio will provide artistic finishes for our wood and metal products.
photography
A studio and darkroom to artistically capture the essence of evarts - our products, designs, landscapes, and artisans at work. Jill Brazel will provide seminars in the arts of photography and film development. The photography will go hand in hand with the free-lance journalists that we invite to visit and document our work and message.
