DEFINITION of PROJECT TYPES

hardscapes & landscapes

The integrated design and construction of beautiful outdoor spaces, such as patios, decks, pergolas, fences & gates, retaining walls, and conservatories.  We will also incorporate our fountains, furniture and artworks into these projects to enhance the quality and set evarts projects apart from the competition.

garden rooms

Garden rooms include solariums, screened porches, three-season rooms, green houses and gazebos.  These may be stand alone projects, or integral with a comprehensive landscape plan.

terraces, balconies & rooftops

While walking or driving through Chicago and Evanston, look up at the mid to high-rise buildings, and what do you see?  Balconies…  thousands of them - most completely empty!  Many of these buildings also have flat roofs, prefect for rooftop gardens and terraces, which is also a priority of Mayor Daley.  In 2002, Chicago was the host of the International Rooftop Garden Expo, and Chicago's City Hall's new roof garden was the highlight of the show.

Given that these balconies and terraces are the only "yard" these apartment dwellers have, those who enjoy outdoor dining and living could make the most of these spaces by incorporating plants, furniture, and artwork. 

evarts will provide design and construction of deck surfacing, furniture, plant containers, lighting, and accessories to accommodate our 'property-challenged' clientele.

furniture & accessories

evarts will design and build custom chairs, tables, benches, planter boxes, pergolas, swings, etc.  This niche will be enhanced by our ability to custom design and construct works that fit within the client's particular style and to exact layouts and dimensions.

fountains and ponds

Incorporated into our landscape designs may be small ponds and fountains.  Ponds will be constructed (in the short term) by trade partners.  Fountains will be designed, built, and installed directly with evarts labor.

concrete, masonry & ceramic artworks

Landscape projects may also require various concrete, masonry and ceramic works, such as retaining walls, fireplaces/pits, planters, pavers and, pottery.  Onsite concrete and masonry work will be subcontracted; smaller projects will be built directly with evarts labor.

evarts will design and build garden artworks such as custom pavers, mosaics and statuary.  These accessories will enhance each project and brand them with the unique evarts stamp.

residential construction

evarts  will provide design and consulting services to custom home buyers.  We will only take projects aligned with our goals - i.e. quality, green building, architecture integrated with the landscape, and unique, artistic homes.

residential maintenance

This market niche will be explored as a source of income and work to keep our labor forces steadily employed.

service partners

evarts will partner with local companies to provide complete services to our clients.  Partners will include landscape designers & contractors, general contractors, engineers and architects, and trade contractors.

DEFINITION of SERVICES

design

Our design services will include: architecture, landscape design, furniture, accessories (pottery, lighting, candles, artwork), and design management.  We will aggregate entire project design by using the services of civil, mechanical and electrical engineers, as well as other design professionals.

program management

Program management is the practice of overseeing, managing and administering a project from concept through warranty.  This structure will provide consulting services to assist clients in all project phases, including: conceptual design, budgeting, working drawings, bidding, contracting, construction management, project close-out, and warranty.  These services will be offered in phases, allowing the customer to select any or all services to meet their needs. This service will provide the clients with total transparency in the building process.

design/build

Under the design/build structure evarts will partner with our clients, providing a seamless process from project concept through warranty.  We will provide all necessary design services and estimates, and act as the general contractor (or construction manager). 

Under this model, the project team is working with common goals, as opposed to conflicting interests that arise under the traditional low-bid structure.  Design/build also provides open book accounting, and transparency in decision making so that the owner can know that the team is working with the client's best interests first and foremost.

construction management

Acting as a construction manager and owner's representative, evarts will oversee and administer the construction process to support our design clients on large projects.  We will analyze bids and contracts, monitor the schedule and budget, inspect work in progress, review payment applications, and make recommendations to the owner on issues of quality, cost, and schedule to control the project.

direct labor

evarts will directly employ artisans and skilled laborers in the following areas:  rough and trim carpentry, woodworking, concrete masonry, ceramics, and wood finishes.  By employing direct labor, evarts will have greater flexibility with labor forces, provide superior, consistent quality, and realize higher profit margins on our projects.
