Background

The Evanston Artisan Cooperative is the result and culmination of many of my experiences.  While working as an engineer and project manager in the commercial construction industry, I have been fortunate to land in some beautiful locations - both urban and outback.

Time spent building, biking, camping, snowboarding and kayaking in California, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin has inspired me to seek nature ~ in work, rest and play.  It has also given me great respect for our environment and a commitment to help preserve it for future generations.

Living in diverse cities like San Francisco and Evanston has provided insights into the dynamics of healthy, thriving communities.  The diversity of the people, culture, architecture, and opinions not only adds to a city's interest, it also strengthens the financial base by attracting artists, entrepreneurs, and educated people.

As researched and reported by Richard Florida in Creative Class, a city's 'cool' is now the primary factor in determining its global ability to compete.  Many of America's mayors, governors and other decision makers are taking note XIn post-industrial America, diversity and tolerance within an urban center are the keys to its economic engine.  Creativity, brain power, and innovation are the drivers.

The Evanston Artisan Cooperative will combine design, construction, and artwork ~ merged with social issues and community .  Our presence in the marketplace will help restart the public dialogue on important issues that are now mostly left to 'somebody else.'

By raising awareness and providing a forum, we will empower people to actively participate in their democracy.  Like the Heartland Cafe in Chicago, the goal is to be much more than a business, but a community resource center and catalyst for positive change.
